PHMF VTC SEWING CLASS PROGRAM IS NOT ONLY FOR GIRLS

Sewing Class 1

The sewing class is a favorite training at the Vocational Training Centre of the Cipanas YUM Village. Each term, the Cipanas VTC holds two classes. The students in the Basic Sewing Class learn everything from the very beginning. Most of them have not been doing any work with the fabrics before. The first thing they learn is how to make and cut a pattern. Many students find it difficult to make patterns, but they are motivated and do not give up easily. Meanwhile the students in the Intermediate Sewing Class continue to make a whole pattern and learn to use sewing machines. They are taught to make t-shirts, skirts, trousers, dresses etc.

The students who are learning sewing are not only girls, but BOYS also. There is no feeling of shame. The students are very motivated to learn and are able to get a proper job after graduating from the VTC course. Most of them want to work in the nearby garment industries in the nearest cities such as Cikarang, Bekasi, Jakarta, Tangerang and others. They want to be able to improve their quality of life and that of their family.

“The first thing I learned was how to make a pattern. It was really hard for me at the beginning. I often drew or cut the material in the wrong direction. But, my tutor Mrs. Ila was very patient. She always encouraged me and the other students to not give up easily. Now I can make a skirt and t-shirt pattern correctly. “

Ruddin, Basic Sewing Class – High School Graduate

“The reason why I take sewing class is because I want to work at a manufacture later on. My parents support my decision to study at YUM-VTC. Both of my parents are also tailors. My dreams are to have my own tailoring shop and make new trendy clothing. I like making and cutting patterns, even though many students find it difficult”

Muarif , Intermediate Sewing Class students – High School Graduate
