Computer Class for Young Learners

Time flies! We are already nearing the end of the first semester of the year of 2022!

At the beginning of the year, we found out that local schools were facing difficulties in implementing a new program that was launched by the Indonesian Education Ministry. The purpose of the program is to diagnose the learning outcomes of students in grade 5. The aim is to design a learning method that matches the level of each student’s competence by teaching at the right level. This was of course a great idea, however, in order to diagnose each student, they had to either do the test on a computer or on a mobile phone.

As not every household owns a mobile phone, schools reverted to taking the online test through computers, however many students still do not know how to operate a computer. Due to this, YUM decided to open a special Computer Class for younger students in February. There were 15 active students in this trial group, they were from 4 different schools in the area. They came twice a week for one and a half hours. They will take part in 24 sessions and learn about the computer parts, basic Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher. At the end of May, all of the students completed their course and are ready to do the program!

Thank you PHMF for your generous support of the Vocational Training Centre, without which we could not have supported these students to learn computer skills!
