One of the activities at YUM’s Community Library in Cipanas related to the 21st century skill preparation is the quintessential Computer Club. The aim is to introduce the use of computers for children from an early age. The lesson began from learning how to switch on & off the computer, typing, getting familiar with hardware, that are various parts of the computer and being comfortable using basic computer software programs, such as Word, Excel, creating graphics and many others.
The Computer Club turned out to be one of the children’s favorite activities. Most of them do not have a computer at home and if they want to use the computer they have to go to a nearby computer rental or Internet café. Since there were an increasing number of participants, we moved the activity from the library to the VTC Computer room, as it was equipped with more computers.
I am Riska, a 5th grade student. I have been an active member of the library for a year now. Besides the computer club, I am also involved in the Dance and Science club. I like learning and using the computer at YUM.
My name is Fadlan. My friends and I visit the library after school hours. At YUM’s library, I love reading fantasy books. When Miss Agnes, YUM’s librarian announced the introduction of the Computer Club, I registered myself right away. I always wanted to learn to use the computer, but unfortunately we do not have a computer at home and I have to pay if I want to use the computer at an Internet cafe.
Thank you Priscilla Hall Memorial Foundation, for your kind support for YUM’s VTC, especially the computer classes. With your generous contribution, YUM is able to accommodate children with limited financial capacity and thereby provide essential resources to complete their education in order to help them become capable and accomplished citizens of the 21st century.
