DAYS FOR GIRLS TRAINING AND DISTRIBUTION ON PRODUCTIVE WOMEN IN WEST TIMOR

Foundation for Mother and Child Health (FMCH) Indonesia in collaboration with Priscilla Hall Memorial Foundation (PHMF) and Days for Girls Australia, has conducted and delivered Days for Girls project in West Timor especially Timor Tengah Selatan District since last year. This time, we want to expand our beneficiary which is not only focus to teenage girls but also productive women. Majority of productive women in here, is from under privileged family and didn’t complete their primary education so they didn’t have basic knowledge on feminine hygiene and reproductive health. The women also talked about their difficulties to access clean water and menstrual supplies in the village. Even if the sanitary products are there, they have to walk in a long distance or spend high amount of money on transportation cost to arrive in market.

Last March, our trainers distributed 95 DfG Kits to three villages in Timor Tengah Selatan District, which was consisted of Nunleu Village (11 March 2019), Sunu Village (13 March 2019) and Fenun Village (20 March 2019). The women were delighted to receive their DFG Kits because if it maintained properly, DfG kits could last up to 3 years so it will help them to save a significant amount of money which can now go to other household needs. Trainer also gave them education on basic sexual and reproductive health concepts, including: hygiene, puberty, anatomy, menstrual cycle, self-defense, human trafficking and Days for Girls Kit use and care. The women enthusiastically shared and discussed of their problems regarding menstrual and sexual matters.

Distributed: 95
To Date: 415 kits
